The Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle Goal Card!

What Do You Want?

That's the first question you need to answer before you hit the gym, pick up a weight, jog a mile, take a fitness class or start planning your meals.

As Earl Nightingale said, "People with goals succeed because they know where they are going."

Unfortunately, most people don't set goals, and if they do, they don't set goals properly or take them seriously, at least not for long.

Fortunately, since you found this page, you probably already have the "fitness bible" Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, and you know how to properly set goals.

But there's a pitfall that even smart Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle readers succumb to: Losing focus and then losing motivation. You start gung-ho, but sometimes in a matter of weeks, "life happens" and you get busy and distracted. That goal you were truly excited about before, becomes a fuzzy memory in your past.

There's a simple solution to this problem...

Introducing THE GOAL CARD!

This simple but powerful tool - The Goal Card - will keep you laser-focused on your major targets. But it's also much more than a focusing tool - it's a mental training tool that will train your brain for success, programming your target into your mind like a target is programmed into the guidance system of a torpedo.

Here's how to use the Goal Card most effectively:

Choose your single most important 12-week (90 day) goal - which is most important to you and is your absolute highest priority. Then, write it down, in "affirmation" format, on a small goal card, about the size of a credit card or business card. It's ideal if you use card stock, like an index card. If you have a laminator, then laminate it for longevity purposes because you're going to be handling it daily. You could also put it in a clear plastic credit card sleeve.

It's ideal to write your 90-day goal statement as an AFFIRMATION. This is covered in detail in chapter six of Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, yet curiously, only a handful of people do it the first time around. Most people resist at first because it sounds weird, but the way you write your goal is important, so read this carefully:

How to Write Your Goal Card

1. Start the goal card by writing your deadline at the top. For example: By August 15th, 20 _ _ (or whatever your deadline is).

This is the only part of your goal card that is written in future tense, and it's only for urgency, it's not part of your actual goal statement. All goals must have deadlines because it's a psychological law that work always expands to fill the time allowed.

2. Next, begin your goal affirmation statement by writing it in personal tense ("I").

3. Continue writing your goal in present tense ("I AM").

4. Write your goal with positive emotion ("I AM so happy")

5. Write your goal with gratitude ("I AM so happy and thankful ")

6. Give added emphasis to personal and present tense ("I AM so happy and thankful now that I AM ...")

7. Finish by filling in the blank with your goal. The goal MUST be stated in the positive . In other words, you must write what you want to achieve, not what you want to avoid (how lean you want to become, not how much fat you want to get rid of). Be as clear and specific as possible and feel free to embellish and add as much additional emotion to your affirmation statement as possible. Ideally, when you read it, it should stir up a feeling and make a picture pop into your mind.

8. E-mail me at the end of the year, or even a few months from now and tell me what goals you acheived and how this changed your life (or if you are leaving a book review on Amazon.com, you could mention there too, how much the goal-achievement chapter helped you).

I believe that a goal-oriented mind and a focus on mental training may be the most important element of all, and it's the one most people are missing. After you've used this tool, I'm eager to hear about your success.

Train hard and expect success,
